Activision added them post-launch to prevent review scores from being negatively affected, and if that's not bad enough they're increasing the coin price for items to make the mtx appealing, on top of the "best value" microtransaction costing 25% the cost of the regular game...and you don't even get enough coins from that to get anything good.

Still doesn't make it okay. If enough of a stink is raised about this it's possible another Battlefront 2 situation happens.

Plus it's legit a kid's game compared to CoD or sports games so it feels especially slimy.

@Zack_Attackv1

That's actually why I made this topic, lol. He seems to be the only one outraged by this and I'm wondering why.

Edit: Guess I haven't been looking hard enough.

Of course it's slimy. It's disgusting. But it's Activision, so people could see it coming.

Whatever the unlock points are, that required an online check-in.
The only reason a game would ever need or want to do that, especially when it's mostly (or entirely) cosmetics, is selling those unlock points for money.

It's for the Wumpa Coins which are used to buy skins, karts, stickers, and characters in the in-game shop.

But anyway, I kinda wonder if it's possible for review websites to allow addendums to reviews because of this. In the age where DLC and patches are prevalent in basically every game that comes out I feel it would be beneficial to let reviews be revised to reflect the game in its current state, and change the score if need be. It can be positive or negative.

I've seen some hate for it on the subreddit. Pretty shameful. I guess it wasn't a surprise when they had their Fortnite unlock system at launch. They want you to keep coming back to spend money.

Basically all shit that you used to get for free, but rendered down into an unrewarding cycle of grinding for coins until you're frustrated enough to either quit or buy them.

Well people still buy their games. So they can get fucked. They may say they don't like it. But obviously they do because they keep buying the games. So yeah, get fucked and stop whining.

I'm curious are they adding any new tracks or anything to CTR or is it just skins, karts and characters?

From what I can tell it's the latter. But usually they justify selling those to give out additional content for free. But so far the additional content is just a competition to get points on a checklist.

Trust me. I was going to buy CTR but after seeing the post-launch mtx bs they just lost a sale from me. I'm not even gonna get the Switch version which doesn't have mtx (yet).

As much as we hate on mtx, you have to admit it's a genius business model and it generates a continuous stream of revenue compared to simply just buying the base game.

Just to clarify this microtransaction system since not everyone here has played the game. I haven't played since the patch but I'm assuming this is how it works.

So you earn Wumpa Coins by playing the game. Anything in the game earns Wumpa Coins.

You can use Wumpa Coins in the shop. The shop cycles through characters, karts and cosmetic items every day. Note that any character unlockable in the original remains unlockable there. You cannot buy characters like Pinstripe in the shop. You unlock him in Adventure mode. But you can buy extra outfits for him.

The big thing for CTR is the Nitro Cup. You earn Nitro Points by playing the game and reach milestones that unlock further cosmetic items and characters. These are the typical daily/weekly challenges. As far as I know you cannot buy these items in the store and you cannot buy Nitro Points. But you do get bonuses playing with certain characters and cosmetics that may be sold in the store. The top 5% of players in the Nitro Cup at the end unlock an exclusive kart.

I think that's everything.

It's become the new thing after the EA lootbox fiasco.

Not many people talk about it but resident evil 2 was one of the first to do this.

They made the weapon unlocks quite hard and something not many people like to do i.e. 'completing the game on hardcore mode in less than 3 hours'. Then they sneaked in the mtx to let people buy the unlocks.

If they had this right from the start, their game wouldn't have been rated as high.
