The second anime is kinda bad. The manga is really, really good but yeah its just not worth getting into currently. If the series ever actually finishes, sure, but it seems unlikely at this point. I've read a bunch of the early manga and watching the anime first makes the reading experience 10x better, definitely at least watch the old anime before attempting to the read the manga. It does things out of order from the manga improves the experience of beginning the manga. It's kind of like a commercial for the manga in a good way.
