the hype during season 1 IS overhyped. but all things considered, it is still very good.

-the overall plot is interesting, and information are revealed in a steady pace so far. no huge lore dumps in 1 episode nor it feels like purposely witholding information. the watcher learn the information the same pace as the characters.
-action is damn good. the animation is excellent, even when sometimes they use stills for conversation on narration, it never feels too abrupt or overused. feels like a worth trade off for those action scenes
-pretty great worldbuilding
-overall great cast. ironically eren and mikasa are actually some of the more boring characters, especially eren, who so far survived because plot armor. some other cadets of 104th are more interesting, as well as other recurring characters. out of the trio, armin is my favorite because he seems the most complex. eren is almost typical shonen MC, mikasa is cartoon obsession of eren. her character is literally about eren eren and eren. armin feels the most 3 dimensional out of 3. he has doubts, troubles, overcame them, loyal to their friend but not to the point where he feels like a "best friend" anime cliche.

otherwise, some parts i dislike is how it use flashback on a crucial moment to create tension. like if a scene where a character about to die or fight is about to start, it suddenly flashback or transfer to another scenes. it isn't always bad, but especially in season 1, it seems over used so it feels like it is creating artificial tension by abruptly interrupting a scene

Yeah. Season 3 is amzing so far. Season 2 id also good. Depending what made you drop it.
