Like on surface level it seemed pretty similar to pokemon fanbase to me. Cute childish show but with adult fans who like to collect the plushies, figures, shirts whatever. However the MLP has a large section that enjoys dressing up as ponies and sexualizing the ponies, other extreme things that make them a weird and easy target. If the fanbase was overall more PG like pokemon do you think they would be more accepted?

While there is probably more pokemon porn than pony porn, I think MLP got associated with porn more than pokemon. Once people see your fandom as nothing more than animated porn appreciation, respectability is gone.

I don't think men liking something girly aimed at kids would be viewed as more acceptable simply in the absence of physical attraction or memetic repostings of quotes and character costumes.

It'd still be seen as weird. If you're one of the weird ones, just roll with it.

Pokemon is a bit of a weird one.

If a grown hetero adult male says he likes The Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast, I'm assuming he's attracted to the Disney princesses. If a grown hetero adult male says he likes My Little Pony, I'm assuming he's attracted to the mares. If a grown hetero adult male says he likes Pokemon, I assume it's because he likes the gameplay or has a childhood nostalgia for the series.

There's nothing odd about liking Pokemon. I just never noticed how the "you want to fuck the characters, don't you?" rule doesn't apply to it.

I mean, isn't that typically the reason grown men watch cartoons? I watched MLP (when it was part of a service I had) because of Rarity and Fluttershy and I watched The Little Mermaid the other day because of Ariel. :3
