Persona 3 is the opposite of this. Even in areas where the random encounters aren't super bad, the tower bosses have mechanics from 2-3 sections up (party wide light/ dark death spell in the third month, woo, physical reflect and element reflects before you can swap out your party members, etc.) and you want to beat them before the boss for that month for the bonus. Of course, if you can even get to the last tower boss accessible that month, you should at least be able to reasonably get a win against the monthly boss. :l
