He says they pay ok ($40K annually to start with benefits then max out at $60K annually after 5 years).

Personally I can't imagine being a bus driver. I can't imagine having to deal with idiots on the bus, people graffiting, old people holding up the bus, people acting like monkeys, etc. Good for him I guess.

My retired dad drives a bus and most of his co-workers are also retired, but they do it part time for the money. He said that one time, they hired a retired Detroit cop that quit after a week because he couldn't deal with the people.

dont do it if you dont have to

I drive for a living and its more dangerous than you think

you making mistakes isnt the only bad thing that can happen. your safety is also reliant on the other drivers on the road and everyone in the street arent exactly all safe drivers.

Household median income in the US is only like $59,000 a year, so for an individual $60,000 is a good salary.

And TC said that people act crazy on the bus all the time and graffiti it which is not an accurate depiction of what its actually like

I usually ride the bus to and from work and people are generally pretty inconsiderate :((

Around a month ago this guy started catching the same bus that I take to work, and he puts his bags on the seats, taking up 3 places, then plays his fucking electric keyboard without headphones. When I can I try to sit right behind him and play some phone games with the volume cranked up, and use my hand to sort of funnel the sound to him as much as possible.

Plus there are all those people who just put their belongings on the seat in general, or sit on the outside seat and don't move in when it gets crowded. Just today I had an old Chinese lady look angrily at me, shake her head, and sigh before making room when I asked her if I could sit down. She could've just sat on the inner seat in the first place, but nope, she had to be bitchy about it.

Then there's those people who are just noisy. Some people let their kids watch loud videos on their phone, others talk on their phone using the speaker (why???), and some people just talk super loud.

I think it's just that people in Hawaii tend to lack common courtesy :<

There's a route around here where the drivers frequently get attacked. They're putting in protection cages for all the drivers now.
