Police in San Francisco on Wednesday shot a dog in the area of Fifth and Market streets, near the Westfield shopping center, the police department confirmed.

The dog, reportedly a pit bull that was unleashed, was showing aggressive behavior and charged at an officer, police said. The officer retreated and fired on the dog, injuring it.

The dog was taken to the hospital by San Francisco Animal Care and Control officers, where it had to be euthanized.

Witnesses reported police arrested the dog's owner at the scene, and video showed officers leading a man away in handcuffs.

The problem is it attracts a lot of people that want tough dogs but don't know anything about it, and a lot of people on the other side that get them and know nothing about training :/

that's very true, one pole is the "street hard" types who want a "hard" dog because a labrador is too soft, but they're shitty owners who leave it chained up in the backyard all day, then the other pole is yuppie soccer moms who adopt one and spoil it and virtue signal on facebook and let it do literally whatever it wants

People should, you know, stop owning pitbulls. It's just not worth it for anyone. If you own one you're potentially putting someones life at risk. Whether it's yours, a random stranger, another dog, or the pitbull itself.

Unfortunately, this. Pit Bulls in general are good dogs, just like all dogs, so long as you train them properly. But the breed unfortunately attracts the absolute worst people. They're either ignorant, and just want a mean looking dog because "I'm tough, so I have to have a tough looking dog because I ain't no pussy." Or you get the real assholes that genuinely want pits so they can raise them to be mean and aggressive and think it's funny when their dog chases or attacks another and encourages said behavior.

It's fucking despicable.

Officer shooting a dog? Happens at least 20 times a day in the US. :/

People need to keep their dogs leashed, period. I don't care if it's a chihuahua, you don't know what an unfamiliar dog charging at you is going to do, what it's intent is. I don't want to stand there and wait to see if it's excited to see me, or planning on attacking and taking hold of my leg. A pitbull has proven it can kill a human. Most cops share the same sediment.

I don't fault the officer in this scenario, regardless of how you view the breed.

they're supposed to have some knowledge of how dogs work. plus pits are somewhat stubborn which is why one has to work with em from a young age, missing out on hidden potential of a good pet if raised wrong.
