Complicit in paying these studios to butcher the franchise and destroy the characters

They don't care about criticism when the box office numbers are good. They don't care about quality.

Come on.

youre language is pretty strong but i kinda agree with the sentiment. im not gonna go into a tirade against the last jedi. all i know is i was super excited to see it after TFA, but when i left the theater i was heartbroken. it just felt so off the entire time, and was full of dumb characters and writing. i was legit depressed lmao

i legitimately have no interest in star wars anymore and i credit that movie

i vowed after TFA to never pay to see another Star Wars film again. I was insulted.

Had no idea in comparison Last Jedi, TFA is actually a halfway decent movie.

Last Jedi was a fucking disaster.

Last Star Wars movie I watched in theaters was TFA. I got through half of Rogue One on Netflix before getting bored and watched something else. I have no interest in Disney SW anymore.

Ive enjoyed all of Disneys Star Wars movies well enough. Ok, I really loved The Force Awakens and Solo, thought The Last Jedi was fine, and Rogue One is the only one I find kind of meh.

All of these fans need to stop acting like Disney is ruining it. Which is ironic because I put the blame on the fans.

My problem is that they are utterly forgettable movies. Star Wars is supposed to be an event. The lightsaber reveal was pretty hype. Phasma was intriguing, and hyped as the next Boba Fett. They wasted a lot of potential by making as shallow an action movie as they could. Granted, Star Wars itself isn't that deep, but they were the first blockbusters in the genre.

The original trilogy released in 6 years, but if we factor in pre-production and post production, more like 9 years (77, 80, 83). Same with the prequel trilogy (99, 02, 05). The Rey saga? 15, 17, and 19. They quite literally cut production time in 1/3rd, and found the time to release 2 stand alone movies in between main movie releases. People are tired of it. Star Wars fatigue. I know I don't give a shit about Rise.

i agree that quality-wise they are better than the prequels. no contest. i dont see how some1 could say TLJ is better than Return tho - what makes you feel that way?

also i havent seen the spin-offs. tried watching rogue one on netflix but got bored after 5 minutes

that whole thing with the teddy bears was ridiculous, and lasted way too long.

but besides that, it's been years since I've seen RotJ, and I remember just not being into it, but I can't remember much of my criticisms.

If Jedi was released these days people would be losing their minds over the Teddies defeating the Empire.

But it wasn't. Movies don't exist in a vacuum.

If TFA came out before ANH then it might actually be considered original.

TC, I share your opinion of the new movies but I don't think you should be so harsh on others for their choice. It's not a good way to win people over.

I have no idea why this is happening, but recent media has been so obsessed with sUbVeRtInG eXpEcTaTiOnS that they've stopped caring about crafting relatable characters, heartfelt stories, and tight narratives. The Game of Thrones disaster is just the latest example.

Doing unexpected things makes sense and should be valued, if it rewards the emotional investment of your viewers rather than mocking it. For Rian Johnson to suggest that fans were foolish for being disappointed about Rey's parentage when her entire character had no room for growth or exploration besides her parents is completely ridiculous.

Rey's introduction in TFA was fabulous. We see the beginnings of, God forbid, an interesting character with relatable traits that could evolve over the trilogy. That's thrown out the window when she's never shown to have any flaws, and as I said, her one area of interest was cast aside for Johnson's precious subversion. It makes all mention of her parents before the reveal a waste of time and attention.

Luke's character was obviously butchered. Arguably no one knows him better than Mark Hamill, and he wasn't shy at all about his disappointment.

Kylo had potential, but it's clear in TLJ that they didn't know what to do with him. His goals and motivations aren't present besides being pissed off at Luke, and then full-blown insane. Hux's promising character was thrown in the garbage for the sake of a joke.

Snoke has the same problem as Rey's parents. "Haha you pathetic imbeciles, no one said that Snoke would be an important villain!" On a rewatch, anything involving Snoke is useless. We don't know how he contributed to Kylo's fall, where he was during Palpatine's reign, why he appears to be the strongest Force user in the franchise so far...

Yeah honestly I agree with post 2, get over it. The Last Jedi was more interesting to me than any of the other Star Wars movies I've seen, this is the only time I've ever actually wanted to see what happens next. Usually my family drags me to see them but now I'll actually go regardless. (Haven't seen the original three though, which I think are probably the best ones)
