I doubt it. Were going for equality, and I doubt empowered women will take over a demographic that has been largely male for over half a century. This push for diversity is great and Im all for representation, but too far in the other direction is going to be a bad business move.

Did she explicitly say she wanted Marvel to have more women than men? Seems like people just put extras on that quote whenever I see it. Some to the extent they act like women just want men to procreate

That worked out so well for Star Wars.

Does anyone actually want this? All I see people do is laugh about the "incels crying", but nobody actually seems excited for an all female Marvel.

A lot of people realize the other side blow up statements to stand in the way of progression. They make it sound extreme to trigger insecurities in people and make them feel like they're being attack. When really the person just wants equality in every aspect of the world

Neither Star Wars or Marvel are "all female"

This quote was lifted from Scarlett Johansson being excited at all of the female lead superhero stuff announced at Comic Con.

Guys are constantly taking stuff out of context and then getting upset at the strawmen they created.

Problem with this appeal is that it doesn't actually appeal to women.

Wolverine had a nearly 50% female audience in it's opening weeked which none of the MCU films or for that matter the DC films managed to match.

So clearly being woman led isn't much of a factor for achieving gender parity.

They should make a male superhero that complains about everything instead of saves the world. That way they could really connect

It's been stated that Captain Marvel is going to lead the MCU. And ScarJo has nothing to lose from a statement like that. She's leaving after her prequel, so it's good PR for her to take a pro-female stance.

They're not going completely reimagine the MCU with a female lead in every movie (or show-stealing female sidekick in every male led movie). They're just saying that there's going to be more of a female focus and they've been saying that for a while now.

Plus, again, it's good PR on her way out the door.
Her character's dead.

I think the whole 'Captain Marvel will lead the MCU' quote is taken out of context too.

When we found out that Brie Larson might be interested in joining our world, we had a number of meetings. She was a huge fan of the character in the comics. One of the highlights of my career at Marvel was introducing her at Comic-Con and having her come out on stage and stand there with literally almost everybody else from our movies. There she was at the forefront, and it was a great foreshadowing not just for how audiences are going to embrace Brie as this character, but also for how Captain Marvel is about to take the lead and be at the forefront of the entire Cinematic Universe.

What actually happens is someone says stuff about women in movies and then a YouTuber or clickbait writer takes out little snippets of that quote to make it look extreme as possible to rile up their audience and create a controversy which gains them views. Eventually people think the clickbait statement is the only thing that was ever said.

Happens constantly.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to the build up to her movie. She's the lead of her movie which puts her at the forefront of the universe.

At this rate the sequel to Captain Marvel is still years away and she's not due to be in any other movies for a while.
