Musee des Beaux-Arts is a cool museum. and if I remember correctly, there's no fee for entry.

check out the Marche Jean-Talon -- a great farmer's market. I got a slice of pizza there that the guy called "Montreal Style." it had a ton of stuff piled onto the slice, including potatoes. probably the most interesting slice of pizza I've ever had

in Montreal, "Librarie" basically means "bookstore", so if you're into that stuff, look for "Mona Lisait" or the anarchist bookstore near the St. Laurent station.

in and around St. Laurent Boulevard is also where you'll find a large amount of the street art. there's tons all over the city though.

Mile End is a cool neighbourhood. there's a cafe there where the Arcade Fire goes when they're in Montreal.

Montreal is famous for its bagels and its smoked meats. check out St. Viateur and Fairmont if you're into the former; Schwartz' Deli if you're into the latter. be prepared for a long line at Shwartz' though.

the Gay Village is also cool, though I don't know how active it would be right now. When I was there, they had giant beaded ropes going across the whole street for several blocks, and as you walked down the street, the beads would go through all the colours of the rainbow.

check out some of the churches too. they're beautiful buildings. there's one in Little Italy that has a giant stained glass picture of Mussolini on a horse.

The Montreal Metro is great if you have a specific destination in mind, but honestly I had a lot of fun just wandering aimlessly around the city.

how long will you be there?
