Generally as soon as possible. The only benefits to staying in a lower tier class is the class mastery skill if you want it, but those take a while to get and are mostly kind of lame (a few are absolutely awesome though, like the Mage and Brigand ones). And possibly the growth rates, depending on the classes involved. The exception is with the final tier of classes, which aren't direct upgrades for the most part - some are, but a lot follow the pattern of being slightly weaker statistically than the advanced classes, but on a horse to make up for it.

You probably also want to look at class unlock requirements early on to start training them, because some of them can take quite a while to meet, especially for characters that don't have strengths in all the necessary areas.

As far as I know, it's only the certification menu and the screen where you see experience you gained after fighting/healing/etc. If there's another place I sure wish I could find it!

How far are you in your current route? NG+ is a thing and you can spend your renown to buy back the supports you've already gained, making it easier to recruit a bunch of people in your next run. And you can buy back your professor level, allowing you more chances to do stuff from the beginning, which also makes it easier to recruit students (like doing more tea times or getting more lessons from other teachers to boost your own stats).

If you miss doing her supports before the time limit on them you cannot get them.

Yeah I'm actually really not a fan of the direction the story goes. Especially since there is no golden ending.

Its well written but... doesn't really feel good to play through. Hurts my enjoyment of the game a lot. Which is a shame because otherwise its probably the best Fire Emblem.

Part 2 Spoilers

I can see why some would want to recruit as many students as possible, but I'm starting to come around on the notion of just recruiting a few from each house and having to take out the rest. Heightens the emotional impact.

Having a "everyone is happy yay" route would suck. It's one of the many flaws of Fates, that two of the three routes are just obviously stupid because there's an objectively superior (in terms of happy endings, not actual game quality) option available that you'd have to be uninformed to not pick. There's absolutely no point to setting up a game about the conflict between these factions if you're just going to have the option to ignore the whole premise, rendering every other path pointless.

That doesn't necessarily have to be the case. There are plenty of stories out there that do the 'true route' thing very well. Revelations problem (as was Fates in general, really) was the writing quality, not the premise.

Someone on Reddit had a great suggestion, for instance.

You could require that you do all of, or at least one of the routes beforehand, and then make the 'true route' a sequel. Have a post-game Byleth harness the full power of Sothis's Divine Pulse ability to go back to the beginning of everything and work to set everything straight.

Done with the same quality of writing, this (or anything) could be a great story in its own right.

And furthermore, just because something is better written doesn't necessarily correlate to 'more enjoyable'. Fire Emblems greatest strength in writing (even in Awakening and Fates, which both have fairly subpar writing to different extents overall) is the characters and getting attached to them.

In a lot of ways, Fire Emblems 'permadeath' mechanic that a lot of people like the series for is exactly the OPPOSITE of what 3 Houses plot is trying to achieve, and it rubs a lot of people the wrong way (including me). Because permadeath isn't encouraging you to get the characters killed, its encouraging you to NOT get them killed. You want to save everyone.

But you can't do that here.

And its not something I particularly enjoy.

Eh, the premise of Revelations is bad too, not just the writing quality.

I haven't made it to the time skip yet but the early game is setting the table perfectly for an actually serious look at the horror of war, people having to kill their former friends and family and if this game actually has the balls to pull that off with no punches pulled then it would easily be my favorite thing this series has ever done with its story.

If I'm right about that and that's what is making people uncomfortable, I think I'd argue that's the point and it would be missing that point to ask for something happier. (Disregard me completely if I'm way off base here.)

Well you could always aim to recruit absolutely everyone on a NG+ run and then at that point you only have to kill a maximum of three or four students!

Note that I'm also still pre-skip so I don't know how the story handles killing or not killing the opposing houses.

I can't say I was expecting Linhardt's supports with Marianne and Lysithea to be about revealing their secrets. It's just kinda weird someone from outside their house is so vital to learning more about their backstories. Though I guess I haven't seen their paralogues yet, so maybe it's just redundant information.

To me, it undermines the entire idea of the characters being worth caring about if you don't have to face the possibility of needing to kill them for being on the other side of the conflict. You already have the ability to recruit people pretty freely to minimize casualties anyway, taking it any further just kind of hurts the idea that there's an actual conflict going on, and by extension, the idea that these characters are real enough to actually have things they're willing to fight for.

If it's the post about the supports, I don't see how that's really spoilers. I didn't mention any specifics. If anything it's advice that people should try to see those supports, since I bet a lot of people won't due to them being in different houses.
