Two of the better RPGs during the PS1 eras and deserves much more attention than this other game that starts with an X.

A very simple and layered plot that charms you with their characters and relatable relationships with one another. A game that puts you through trials and tribulations to become a hero and a literal revolutionary leader. The main casts are great, the supporting casts are great, the villains are great. Characters come in ALL brands in righteous heroes, anti-heroes, traitors, tragic heroes, people seeking redemption and forgiveness, from literal farmers to cooks to adventurers to knights to magic users. The variety is almost endless.

Battle system is simple, traditional, fast and yet super fun and engaging. Use normal attacks, use magic or use group attacks. Fight in wars or 1on1 duels. It's all fucking awesome.

But you know what's the best thing about these two games? They are perfectly paced, both are perfectly finished, completed, not bare bones, not half ass made, doesn't become a graphic novel and everything that good jRPG should be.

I really loved the 1st one when it came out, but have beat it at least a half dozen times.
I never really played the 2nd one though. I had it, but think I got consumed with other games. I ended up selling it for a good amount. Wish I at least went through it before selling it. Maybe one day I'll get a chance to play it.

They're next on my agenda. I'm on a JRPG binge (SNES/PS1/PS2) at the moment.

I won't read too much in here for fear of spoilers.

I'm also considering Lunar, Shadow Hearts, Valkyrie Profile, Chrono Cross (played Trigger). etc.

Tons happen in Suikoden 1 like almost immediately too. The king of your country literally goes apeshit crazy because he becomes a beta cuck for a crazy magical witch who seeks True magical Runes which you get one. A rebellion starts and you meet the leader of the rebellion and she tasks you to take back the country to it's glory olden righteous days.

It's been too long since I've played them. I really enjoyed powering through them both one summer in high school though. I havent replayed them but I want to. Just hard to make time for RPGs these days
