I saw something on facebook referencing someone who stomped on the flag in protest. Some of the comments were along the lines of "If I saw you stomping the flag I'd stomp your face".

I have seen similar comments about burning the flag.

And now today I saw a video shared of a guy shimmying up a flag pole to fix a flag that had come loose.

I find this very strange. I am not anti-american, but if I saw someone stomp, burn, or otherwise destroy/disrespect a flag I wouldn't be bothered at all. Not a big fan of symbolism and whatnot, and plus stomping the flag is basically saying "Fuck America" which is probably said several times a minute across the world and no one seems to get upset at that.

It's creepy and I generally don't trust people like that

I don't mind putting up a flag on the 4th or Memorial day but there is a definite idolatry surrounding the flag. Some people even question a politician's loyalty for not wearing a flag pin - or they attribute some fake loyalty because they are wearing a $2 pin.

It wouldn't bother you AT ALL? You dont have to feel super patriotic about the flag. You dont need to say the pledge to it everyday or nothing. But saying you would feel NOTHING is anti-American to me. It's one thing to be disenchanted with things that are happening here and wanting change. It's another to actively hate America.

No matter how much "fuck America" is said around the world, those people arent Americans. No matter what they do that doesn't make it relevant to an American stomping a flag and saying "fuck America".

It's not about a "flag cult". That's about the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard. It's about having enough respect for the country that gives you the freedoms that you have and is the place where you live.

I'm not saying love it or leave it. I'm just saying if you hate America THAT MUCH maybe it's time to move on.

Many of the greatest, smartest, most successful, peoples, armys and nations of all time have stood behind a symbol of some kind. Your not superior is any way, shape or form becuase you fawn upon such behavior.

Such attitudes only fools people into believing their far smarter, open minded, and special then they actually are.

Lots of people have deep feelings that it symbolizes and using it makes them feel all glowy
