I'm a Clevelander and I just moved to the Detroit area like two years ago. You always see those lame-ass lists of "worst cities to live in," etc. and you always see both cities pop up. I'm convinced that these lists are solely based off of some lame, normie-ass shit like mean income, success of professional sporting teams, and crime rates -- because both cities have infinitely more personality than say, Tucson or Columbus, and a good portion of places I've visited.

Cleveland has nationally famous chefs, and tons of well known - what my girlfriend would call - "white people restaurants." Cleveland has always had strong punk, hardcore, and metal scenes -- and has had its own sound throughout various eras, something not a lot of cities can say. Cleveland has an amazing Metropark system, probably the best public transportation I've encountered in any major city, a strong local foods community, and some good museums. Plus there's just tons of counter culture in Cleveland in general.

As for the Detroit area -- Dearborn has one of the largest Muslim populations in the US, so all the middle-eastern food is amazing. Lots of the soul food is great here. Tons of Detroit suburbs have huge Indian populations -- so the Indian food is amazing as well. While Detroit may not be as counter culture as Cleveland - it DOES have a lot of diversity, and lots of other cultures existing in a mid-sized city.

Both cities have good attitudes, both are affordable, and both aren't insanely busy.
CE always talks about touristy bullshit like Hawaii, Florida, and Arizona and rags on rust belt cities. Get some unique taste.

Cleveland has a lot of personality, even if the rest of Ohio doesn't. Detroit has a toooon of culture/personality, as I'd mentioned. Most of PA has tons, too.

If you're talking about the Midwest and you're living in like, Indiana or Wisconsin or something then I could see this sentiment maybe.

it's Cleveland - but I don't get why that's even something worth mentioning to people.
