It's not any different. They're arresting people wherever and whenever they can, just like before. It is more sophisticated and organized, as well as more expensive.

It is just more of a big deal now to many and people are more upset about it than in the past

These raids are at least a little different because they are arresting people who entered illegally, applied for amnesty, had their applications denied, appealed those denials, had their appeals denied, and stayed anyway. This isnt the classic la migra, la migra raids where everybody runs for their lives because theyre picking up everyone willy nilly, theyre picking up only those who have been completely through the system and were rejected wholeheartedly by it.

most of them dont' show up to their hearing
there are 10 million in this country with some guesses up to 20 million
