Preface: my favorite game is Hollow Knight

I'm about three hours into Ori and it's not at all pulling me in. No characters, no interaction, no "wtf is that? Im gonna see where this hole goes *5 hours later* what was I doing again?"

Just a monkey in the woods. It's just a lonely, floaty platformer so far.

I just beat it a few days ago. The more moves you unlock the better it gets IMO.

No. It's a very pretty game, but if you're a fan of the genre with any significant experience in it, the game is just too easy and too shallow. There's only one truly challenging traversal segment in the whole game near the very end, and combat never gets harder than what you've already experienced.

If you've a fan of the genre coming from Hollow Knight, I'd recommend something like Axoim Verge (which is more Metroid than -vania) or Valdis Story (which is more -vania than Metroid).

Of the 2, Valdis Story is probably going to appeal to you more, and it an incredibly underrated indie gem.

Huh that does look good

I've never played Castlevania/bloodstained, is that more hollow knight/get lost for fun?

Outside of the art direction and visuals, I don't think Ori is that great for those who prefer combat over platforming in Metroidvania games.

I think compared to all the Metroidvanias I've played, the two that are most similar to Hollow Knight are Metroid: Zero Mission and Super Metroid. It could be entirely because of tone, but that's just the comparison that makes the most sense to me.

Castlevania and Bloodstained are faster paced games. And other than being in the same genre they don't really feel similar at all to Hollow Knight. Personally, I prefer them. Symphony of the Night is one of my favorite games ever, and Bloodstained has definitely surpassed Hollow Knight as my second favorite Metroidvania.
