Don't think I do. My brother had trouble reading growing up, even into his late teens, but he's good now

Yes, and many of them are on Gamefaqs =p

Seriously, though, no. Then again, I've lived in developed parts of the US rather than states like Alabama, Mississippi, and Missouri which are known for that kind of stuff.

Not anyone completely illiterate, but some people who come super close to it yes, horrifying really considering they're this way because of the U.S education systems.

I know I've said it before, but even in CT -- supposedly one of the "good" states for education -- I met a high school senior who didn't know who Stalin was and thought Mussolini was pasta dish (okay, she *might* have said a city). I laughed so hard that the teacher running the study hall asked me to leave the room.

No. But I almost had my girlfriend convinced that I couldn't read a few days ago. "Babe, are you serious? You really can't read?"

Despite us texting all the time and her seeing me look things up on the internet regularly. She definitely had a major "woosh" moment there.

Interesting story: Jacques Demers, who won the Stanley Cup with the 1992-93 Montreal Canadiens managed to be illiterate most of his life and nobody noticed.

From Wikipedia:

On November 2, 2005, Demers released a biography, written by Mario Leclerc, entitled En toutes lettres (English translation: All Spelled Out), in which he revealed that he is functionally illiterate. According to Demers, he never really learned to read or write because of his abusive childhood in Montreal. He covered for himself by asking secretaries and public relations people to read letters for him, claiming he could not read English well enough to understand them (though he speaks English and French equally well). When he served as general manager of the Lightning, he brought in Cliff Fletcher and Jay Feaster as his assistants; as it turned out, they did most of the work a general manager would normally do because Demers knew he could not do it himself.
