Are they really a scam?

Because they can't afford to buy entire second, third, and fourth homes in nice places so they take the risk.

And to be fair, most aren't "scams" and are more of just bad investments.

If you want to go on vacation then just rent a condo. If you want to own one and dont mind other people staying there then save up a decent down payment and rent it out when you aren't there

I wouldn't say they are scams rather than terrible investments.

My in laws bought one. They pay out the wazoo with upkeep and fees and only get a short time with the unit every year.

People with no financial sense buy timeshares. Rent a condo or find a hotel. It is always cheaper and better imo. Anywhere you can buy a timeshare I guarantee a rental is available or a hotel is close by.

The point is if you're okay with other people staying there just rent something. It's cheaper and easier

Theyre scams. Sit in on a timeshare presentation. Over aggressive sales tactics at their worst - totally predatory.

My wife and i sat through one and it was hilarious. We were saving to buy a house (which we now own) and the timeshare people told us that was an awful investment compared to a timeshare.

The product itself isn't a scam, it is clear what you're buying. Not really worth it IMO, I'd rather save up for a property I could personally own and then rent out. Plus if I have this stupid time share I'd feel obligated to only ever go there for my vacation instead of going to new places.

That said, the people selling them are pretty shitty. It's all high-pressure sales and they'll say pretty much anything to get you to buy.

For starters he has the choice of where to go. Timeshare buyers are now stuck going to the same place forever
