I'd rather see weapons done better. More dungeons would be awesome, but the weapon degradation "feature" actively prevented me from enjoying the game for much of its duration.

I'm willing to keep weapon degradation if we just remove boko weapons.

It wasn't the fact that weapons broke, it was the fact that the majority of the weapons in the game looked like goofy shit for me.

classic dungeons in botw = goatest goat that ever goated.

weapon degradation would be nice, but good weapons become easy to farm. i'll take dungeons of the two.

I want the dungeons to be like Hyrule Castle. Hyrule Castle perfectly captured what Breath of the Wild was about. Exploring it was not only fun, but rewarding. So give me more dungeons that are as open-ended as that. The number of shrines should either be heavily reduced or they should be eliminated entirely. I'll gladly take 5 or 6 high quality dungeons instead of 4 mediocre ones and 120 shrines scattered across the map.

They could also have traditional dungeons. I'd be okay with that but also kind of disappointed. I think Hyrule Castle is the template they should work off of for dungeons. Or they could always have a mix of both types.

Oh yeah enemy diversity is another important one.

The weapon degradation system is fine as is. The only thing they should maybe consider doing is allowing the Master Sword and the Champion weapons or their equivalent to be unbreakable. Or at the very least for the Champion weapons put them on the same cooldown as the Master Sword. But it's no big deal if they keep everything the same in my opinion.

I feel like those two things go hand in hand. They didn't bother with enemy diversity because all the enemies had to have weapons to be worth engaging them. If weapons had a vastly longer lifespan, you could kill all sorts of different kinds of weapons without worrying about getting back your investment all the time.

Better Dungeons easily. I LOVED the Hyrule Castle part of BotW, but it made me really realize how much I missed dungeons of old. Shrines/Beast all had the same aesthetics so even when they were wildly different puzzles, they still became all same-y after awhile. That's not even addressing the combat shrines.

Enemy variety is next. There are like 5 types of enemies in the whole game and even the bosses were just different versions of the same thing.

After those two are fixed then you can reconfigure weapon degradation. You don't have to get rid of it, but make it more forgiving. Especially with better weapons later in the game. A boko club can break after 20 uses, no problem. But Royal Sword should be able to stick with you awhile.

I don't know if I agree with that, but I certainly would be fine with them making all weapons last longer.

I see where he is getting that. When fighting enemies causes you to use up weapons, the vast majority of your enemies need to drop Link-usable weapons. Which by definition limits what enemies you can have. Especially your non-humanoid enemies.

Weapon degradation isnt a huge deal imo, but it needs a crafting/upgrade/repair system.

Actual dungeons with distinct themes and interesting progression are a must though. If I had to pick just one and everything else stayed exactly the same, that would be it.

Yeah. Which I do hope that they revamp the weapon system so that we can have a wider variety of enemies. Maybe change it so that you collect weapons in just the environment and they not only have more durability but they don't shatter when broken, meaning you'd have to repair them. And Link could learn an ability through a blacksmith's sidequest or something so he could do that himself.

This would also mean there's no duplicates and no way to dispose of them. Maybe throw in an upgrade system so weapons can be powered up (they won't lose their upgrades when broken).

I picked more traditional dungeons, but not at the expense of the shrines. I really enjoyed the one-off nature of the shrines and not knowing exactly what to expect or which ability(ies) they'd focus on, as opposed to traditional dungeons where most of the puzzles revolve around said dungeon's item. The rewarding nature of BotW's exploration would plummet if shrines were done away with.

Enemy variety didn't bother me terribly, but we definitely need some big bad Darknuts back in the mix at the very least.

I really didnt care for Hyrule Castle that much. Sure it was nice and big compared to the Divine Beasts, but it still didnt feel like a Zelda dungeon to me. It didnt utilize your special abilities in clever ways, it didnt have any good puzzles. It felt uninspired and boring to me. At least the music was fucking fantastic.

Those things could be added to a similar type of dungeon though. It didn't need to utilize your special abilities and puzzles because the Divine Beasts and shrines already did that.

Get gud. It was a minor annoyance, but deciding to change how weapons work would destroy the seamlessness that should exist between sequels.

Weapon degradation doesn't need to be completely taken out. Maybe tweaked to last longer or cheaper to repair, but the gameplay loop of BOTW makes switching your weapons up kind of integral to the experience.

I would go with full scale dungeons.

also more enemy variety.

Hyrule Castle was meant to be a combat and exploration gauntlet, not a puzzle-solving culmination. The latter was already satisfied by the Divine Beasts and the majority of the shrines.

Consider the nature of Hyrule Castle and BotW as an open-world game: 'you can run straight to the endgame as soon as you exit the tutorial area, but you'll most likely get your ass kicked.' Puzzles would have been a lot easier to overcome in the early game than hordes of overpowered enemies, and the mystique of Hyrule Castle and arguably the game in general would have been ruined.

Yeah, Hyrule Castle gave a different experience than anywhere else in the game. To make it a puzzle dungeon would be just the same experience as everywhere else you've already been in the game. I really enjoyed going to the castle. It was so dangerous and I felt like a thief trying to sneak in. Great experience.

Actual dungeons. I liked the idea behind the Divine Beasts but they were all too short for my liking. I feel like something like them would be better served as mini dungeons kind of like the Ice Cavern + Kakariko Well in OoT.

As for weapon degradation, I wouldn't have minded it if it was done better. Like if they allowed you to repair your weapons, made mid tier (and higher) weapons last longer, and maybe make the Champion weapons (or whatever equivalent they decide to go with) unbreakable.
