What is there to defend? Its a fictional story that the animated version already changed the story of.

Would have preferred a more accurate adaptation.

Would have preferred Belle to be played by a French girl. Would have preferred Jasmine to not look like a white girl.

We had another liveaction movie of the Little Mermaid last year that didnt follow the original story as well.

If she can do the role well, then it doesnt matter what color she got.

Jasmine didnt look that white to me . Actually she looked middle eastern, Her appearance definitely fit the setting.

No it was Arabian/middle eastern. Which would range from Egyptian all the way to countries like Syria and Pakistan.

Which she definitely could pass for.

The aesthetics of the new Aladdin were definitely not comparable with Muslim Egypt or Syria. The women were wearing saris.

It was a madeup story that involves magic and a Jinn, must everything else fit our Earthly standards perfect?

Aladdin takes place in a fictional Baghdad right? And if the new one took on more of an eastern setting then even better because the actress is west Indian

Yes, but that has little to do with me taking issue with the fact this new film will not be an accurate adaptation of the cartoon.

jasmine is half english and half indian
the middle east is smack dab between europe and india. so through math logic she's middle eastern

There are light skin Indian people out there and they were usually high class and her appearance definitely still fit the setting. If you put her next to Aladdin from the movie, they both look like they fit into agrabah.

Princess Jasmine from live-action needed to get her skinned darkened. Why do directors and casting agents have trouble finding someone who looks the role and then blame it on acting skill

That's exactly the issue I take up with it. Waiting for a live-action adaptation but get something different.

I don't remember there being much of a controversy for Jasmine's casting. At the very least it was nothing compared to the Ariel one.

No she didnt as far as Ive seen. I just researched it, they might have done some makeup work on some of the extras, but nothing was done to make jasmines skin darker.
