Gen 5 was the peak, but Emerald is definitely one of the better games in the series.
Platinum and HGSS are also contenders. And if it weren't for Giovanni having a second Rhyhorn instead of the Rhydon he originally had, FRLG would be solidified as one of the best games as well (and it probably still is, even with that baffling change).
