On my way to work I walk through an alley behind some other apartments to get to a bus. I live downtown and shit goes down sometimes. I've seen men and women punch each other in the faces in daylight.

This morning when I got in the alley I heard a woman shouting, very panicked. Couldn't make out the words. Uh oh. As I got closer I could hear what she was saying:
"Baby, give me my keys! Please! Come on! Baby, give me my keys!"

Even though I could hear the words now, I couldn't see people or what was going on. My immediate worry was domestic violence or some other bad shit

When I got close and could see the woman she was standing alone, throwing her hands up in frustration. Who was she shouting at?

I looked up to the top floor and saw it... the woman was yelling at a literal diapered baby child to throw her down the keys. That baby was gleefully pressed against the glass balcony door, locked safely inside, bump shuffling into the vertical blinds and licking the glass. Streaky drool smears building up and blinds clattering away

That baby wasn't throwing keys to anyone but they were having a fantastic time and I treasure this memory

Yeah I worried that maybe the stove was on or something, that was an under 1 bouncing young baby

It is too funny if you ignore the hangers of leaving a very young human unattended!

I feel like an ass for not offering to help but I had places to be and baby wasn't going to listen to me any better

You could have called the cops, or even better, Social Services.
