Imagine hating black people so much, you lose your shit over the the skin color of a cartoon mermaid

How would y'all feel if they remade Blade as a white guy?

Personally, I'd hate it as much as this.

Who cares. It's not central to his character. Fragile people crying over a toon's live-action adaptation is hilarious

Ultimate Comics has SLJ Fury for years before the films.

He's a far lamer character than the classic 616, but that was something already done.

And I will say the red heads constantly being screwed is rather lame, will this change the park actors too?

No. No I wouldnt.

I'd remember that Superman is fictional character. And an alien to boot.

Then I'd understand that the creative designer has decided to try something new. I'd then make a judgment of the work in question after I've seen it in its entirety.

You know what I wouldnt do? Cry about the race of a fictional character. Especially when its not even central the story.

No, people just dont like iconic characters being changed regardless of what that change is to. And that goes for all iconic characters and all types of visual change. Changing a characters iconic costume to something completely new and different is also an unwanted change.

James Bond and the Doctor from Doctor Who get a pass though since its become an established rule in those series that the actors dont have to adhere to one specific appearance.

Because Ultimate Nick Fury is a thing. He was black in the comics before he was black on-screen. Plus people like SamueL, whereas most people don't even know who this ho is.

Plus I should mention that there were a fuckload of complaints when Ryan Reynolds was cast as Green Lantern on the basis that he was white since a whole generation grew up with the Justice League cartoon which used the John Stewart GL (who, by the way, was *also* in comics long before the cartoon) instead of Hal or Kyle.

And, not for nothing, but John Stewart is the only GL of Earth that I can stand.

White people have only had a what, a 70 year run of Disney films depicting white main female characters and princesses for their films until 2009 when the Princess and the Frog came out in 2009? Throughout that time there was no black representation as the main leads until Princess and the Frog. Having a black lead for Little Mermaid is not flipping everything around for a melanated takeover of everything Disney, chill your tits.

Which comes back to this:
It's hilarious to see people bitching about black people not being overrepresented in the media of a company that was almost exclusively white. That's like complaining about Spike Lee not doing any films with white protagonists. He doesn't owe it to the world to do white films because he's been focusing on black films any more than Disney owes black representation for having focused on whites. And pandering by racial recasting is probably one of the worst ways to build representation.

White media is under no obligation to portray black characters any more than black media is under obligation to portray white characters. Or are you the kind of guy who also complains about BET not having enough white representation?

No. Ariel's defining feature is her voice. It's literally the mcguffin of the movie.

Why would it be her hair? Do you recall anytime it's brought up in the story? Eric didn't even notice the hair color change of his "dream girl", but instantly recognized the voice.
