I mentioned before how she has a beautiful kitchen with like $10k worth of cooking gear that she literally never uses. I mean quite literally. That one time I cooked steak in their kitchen, my S.O. literally threw out the wooden spoon I used (as it had red wine stained into the wood now, whereas before it was store-new) and spent about an hour making sure not a single streak, water drop or any evidence of anything being used at all remained. I'm really not exaggerating. The fact that the kitchen had actually been used was a major problem. They mostly just eat bread and takeaway as a couple, as the Le Creuset cookware is not permitted.

So I'm going to visit again weekend, but just found out that since she won't be there on the Sunday morning, I need to leave at least until she returns. She can't have any visitors in the house without her being there, as having anything moved around without her supervision is a problem.

If you're wondering what the husband's take on all this is, he's the most mute and timid man I've ever met. He's 6ft9, 300lbs and has the personality of a scolded dog. She has said before that "my husband agrees", but I've actually never once heard him give any kind of affirmation or argument to anything.

How the fuck did my S.O. grow up in this household? Is it bad that I'm concerned now.

(And it's not just about me, I'm pretty sure of that)

I dont like other people using my kitchen personally. Im not as crazy as the mom you described, where I keep things in new condition and never use them. But I dont like other people using my cookware because they typically dont care for them properly. And I also have a very organized kitchen and like things to be in their place. My husbands family is notorious for trying to help by cooking and cleaning, when what ends up happening is that something gets ruined. They have ruined my wedding cake knife by putting it in the dishwasher when it was meant to be hand washed only. We have a floorboard that swelled up and pops out now because they did the dishes and left water all over the floor. So I can see where she might have that worry if shes had similar experience.
