i apply

3 months later, don't hear anything, position reopened

i call and ask what happened. manager was unhappy with the pool of applicants (i'll try not to take that personally...)

i try to apply again...but the online system wouldn't let me, saying i applied months ago already

i call again and ask them to accept my previous application or fix their IT

they say they can't fix it again and can't accept my previous application for reasons

they tell me i'll need to apply in person or via mail

i tell them that's unreasonable and i should have the same application criteria as anyone else, who are allowed to apply online

they say they'll get back to me...it's been a week and deadline is on fri

am i screwed?

My application was not rejected. The pool as a whole was rejected. This means they didnt think there were 10 worthy interviewees, not that they didnt think I was qualified. This has happened before and they'll interview me the second time usually

My application was not rejected. The pool as a whole was rejected.

wrong. If they actually wanted to hire you they would have called you in for an interview. If this topic is indicative of you as a person i wouldnt want to hire you either.

How did they define unhappy with the pool of applicants? At any rate, you dont really have much room to demand that they take your application online. Just get them a paper application either in person or by mail like they asked. That seems like a really bad start to applying for a job, since the person you spoke with is likely going to tell the person doing the hiring that you were unpleasant lol

1. they don't know i'd sue them, but they can't risk the chances of that ever happening, otherwise it will be a major PR disaster and cost tax payers millions. they don't need to know i would/wouldn't do it, the fear of it is enough to keep them clean

as i mentioned, there is a minimum number of people they have to interview. they didn't think they'd be able to make that number while still having candidates that can perform the position. obviously since i have the highest qualifications possible in my field, i was one of the qualified. i'm not a pushover and don't intend to be. there is such a thing as equal rights. you can't just say "you can apply this way" and say to me "you can only apply this way, which is a harder more inconvenient way".

You seem like the frivolous lawsuit type.

If it's anything like I've experienced, they still have your previous application on file, and they are waiting to get enough candidates for a shortlist before deciding if you belong on the list.

What would truly suck is if you were interviewed for the position and yet they repost the position without giving you a proper answer. I've also seen that happen.

I don't really get why you don't just apply via mail or in person. It's obviously a bit of extra work compared to applying online but if you want the job it seems worth the effort.

Simply because I'm standing up for myself. I dont want to be someone who does things just because they are told, when it's not right. Where do you draw the line? When a cop stops you on the street and asks for your ID, do you comply? I wouldn't, that's illegal. I dont want to be someone that simply follows the path of least resistance. Everything I do is calculated. There are rules and regulations in place and it simply isnt right for the bar to be raised only for me. If this was a private job I'd agree, they can do whatever the fuck they want. But this is the US government...its built on the rights of the people and equality.
