Iran seized nearly a thousand computers used to illegally mine Bitcoin
https://www.theverge.com/2019/6/30/20635616/iran-bitcoin-computers-seized-energy-consumption

"Authorities discovered two bitcoin farms operating in abandoned factories in Yazd province, which caused a seven percent spike in the countrys power consumption this month. Irans central bank banned cryptocurrencies last year, citing concerns over money laundering. According to RadioFreeEurope, officials have said that the practice is making the local power grid unstable, and warned that people engaging in the practice could be cut off."

Only a thousand computers and a spike of 7%. Imagine how much energy all the miners are using across the globe. With Bitcoin rising again and the equations become exponentially complex, more and more power will be required to mine bitcoin. And with bitcoin predominately mined in China, a country that uses coal to generate energy, the world is going to suffer the consequences.
