I can only watch Peter learn about responsibility, watch Uncle Ben die, and see him toss his Spider-Man costume in the trash only to pull it back out later so many times before I get sick of it. And don't even start me on the storyline where he loses his powers which has been adapted so many times that I can't stand it anymore. What makes Spiderverse (and the Spider-Man PS4 game for that matter) so fun is they feel a lot more like products for fans, by fans. They gloss over the usual trappings that everyone feels like you have to have to tell a story with the character and instead take it in a completely different direction. You just get tossed in with the bare minimum of the prerequisites, and that's when the characters of Spider-Man really shine in my opinion. Instead of a story about Peter learning to use his powers or him being hated by the city, Miles gets a fun story about crossdimensional travel mixed with a story about confidence in yourself and finding your own identity, which is something none of the others ever touched on. You get a glimpse of in-his-prime Peter, who I consider way more interesting than early 60s-70s Spider-Man that the movies usually emulate. You get a presentation of unusual villains like Kingpin and Prowler that the other movies never really touch on. And it's chock-full of clever little references and awesome touches that I can't help but adore. I can't remember the last time I came out of the end of a movie feeling so -happy-.
