If I had to bet on how we go out I'd have to say we die due to some manmade disaster. So inhospitable conditions due to global warming or nuclear war is what is really going to do mankind in.

Is there such a thing as a "Fermi paradox" for time travel? That's sort of like what this is.

I don't think travel to the past is possible due to our understanding of physics, but I always liked the idea that alien visitors (think your stereotypical grays) were actually evolved humans from the future.

It could mean a number other things actually:
1. Time travel is possible, and it can be done in a way that is undetectable. We'll never know.
2. Time travel is possible but nobody cares to visit the portion of human history we've lived.
3. Time travel is possible but it is utterly beyond the capacity of humans of any era to pull off.
4. Time travel isn't possible so we can't say anything about, what, if any, future humans have.

Thats actually one of the better theories people have had. There are some interesting things about it. The biggest being that if such a machine like that were to exist then time would essentially be broken as the machine itself forces time to act in a certain way for the people traveling back to even exist to travel back to it.

On topic though. I think it could potentially exist but the amount of power to make it work would be so great that it might not be achievable. And if it was it would be way to dangerous not just to area around the machine but the universe in general

Time travel is only conceptually and logically plausible (result in the fewest paradoxes) if you consider alternate timelines. But alternate timelines violate other physical laws. Like, how the hell is a Universe equivalent to 25 billion galaxies the size of the Milky Way created every time a person time travels? How is it possible for that much mass to be conjured just out of thin air?
