Pretty much. There's just too much power tied up in the prison industry, as despicable as it is that there even is a prison industry in the first place.

Several major banks have pulled there money out of private prison companies in the last week or so, Bank of America is the latest iirc

Haven't a lot of democrats talked about doing that? And it doesn't necessarily improve things because it doesn't touch bigger issues like sentencing reform and alternative reformative treatments like rehab.

It does, however, remove the financial incentive that currently exists to resist addressing those issues. As long as you've got somebody making money off of current sentencing practices and not rehabilitating criminals, you're not going to be able to change those things.

It does, however, remove the financial incentive that currently exists to resist addressing those issues. As long as you've got somebody making money off of current sentencing practices and not rehabilitating criminals, you're not going to be able to change those things.


...but there's still a financial incentive to not do that, considering that relying on existing methods and infrastructure is seen as being cheaper. Not to mention you still have things like unions that push back against change. And you're *always* going to have a large financial incentive to grow prisons because private contractors provide those services.
