Whats it like to be in a room full of no-genders or no-races?

I am fairly regularly one or the other of these. I love being the only guy around. Being the only person of my race in a room is a pretty neutral experience for me though. Generally it's only work or close friends though. Both of which are pretty unlikely to go poorly.

So, I guess the race one is a worse experience.

race don't bother me. i was the only non black kid on the block growing up. gender on the other hand. taking that women's studies course as the only guy was pretty intimidating.

Neither. I don't prefer white people's company and I am plenty okay with being in a room full of girls.

It's funny, a young woman sidled up to me at an event a couple weeks ago and asked if I'd noticed that she was "the only brown one there".

Except actually she was asking that of the guy sitting next to me. I was just sitting by myself like a loser because nobody wants to talk to me. But the rest of it did happen.

Women. I feel I have more in common with a dude of a different race than I do with women. I don't understand women. Hell I don't think women understand women

Im good either way as long as English is being spoken. If they're all strangers then it's gonna be a lil awkward regardless of who it is

I've been in both situations multiple times. Being the only black guy in a place I'm not familiar with is always more uncomfortable.

I'm the only person of my race in the room all the time since I'm biracial black/white and there are rarely people like that, so I'm used to that.

Being in a room with all girls seems...yuck. Unless it's just like 3 or 4 girls.

Race was super awkward. Once I went to Jollibee, and I was literally the only person there who wasn't Filipino. Out of all the customers and workers, I was the only Japanese person in the room. And everyone was staring at me. I just made my order and skedaddled out of there as quickly as I could :<

I've been the only white person several times, and it's really not uncomfortable at all.

Now being the only dude... that's a little tougher.

Being the only guy in the room sucks. You notice the caution around you, like you're a large and unsafe Ikea shelf that might fall over and sprain someone's ankle at any minute.

Race alone doesn't tell me enough about the crowd, culture's far more important. If I just happen to be with a group of second generation American-Koreans, we all still have the same general culture.

Really? I feel the opposite, but that might because one at one of my former jobs I was the only male employee. They indirectly told me they only hired me for heavy lifting so I always felt welcome.

Different strokes, or, perhaps, did they have a wide age range? I have no problem with grannies wanting to feed me snacks and ask if I'm gonna have kids all day. But my girlfriend wanted me to go hang with her friends, and I had no idea they were -all- girls. All my age. Probably being at the beach all in bikinis didn't help.

Oldest was mid 40s, youngest was 16-17ish.

I've had those days. My girlfriend apparently wanted to argue about something so she asked me I found her uncomfortably hot friend attractive.

Being a Hispanic in Oklahoma, the "only race in the room" thing was like every day for me.

Also, any fitness class I attend at the gym, I'm the only guy in the room. It used to bother me, but now I just relish in the extra attention I get.

A twist on this happened for me. I was staying with my gramps and he took me to a gym I'd never been to. Being a tall pale guy among short tan people got me a lot of attention from women.
