Officials in NYC were fooled into thinking a 3 month old baby had been found dead but instead it was an "extremely realistic looking doll"!!

It was found face down in front of a home across Crocheron Park and it was created to look like it was decomposing as it was costumed in a diaper and tee shirt that read "the crawling dead" where it was hidden from view

Police initially taped off the area considering it was a full blown crime scene before realizing they were duped

Police responded after a runner stumbled upon the toy and thought it was a human child as it laid next to a brick retainer wall.

Paramedics initially declared the toy to be a dead baby that appeared to have a purple and bluish skin as if it appeared rotting.

Once they lifted the shirt, they knew it wasn't an actual human and see a shirt that said the crawling dead.

They are now working to determine whether the 911 caller was the person who left the doll there to dupe them and they could be charged for filing a false report.

I guess from a distance ya it looks pretty realistic. Up close though I'm not sure how convincing it would be. There wouldn't be a stench, and unless it's protocol to not disturb the body at all before paramedics come I don't know why you wouldn't at least touch it to check for a pulse (even though it clearly looks dead). At that point you would be able to tell its not real skin. With that kind of color (which honestly doesn't look like real decomp) you would also expect to see some sort of organisms on it (maggots, flies).

Its clothes and diaper are too clean. It looks out of place for it. But yes, at first glance it may appear as a deceased baby but upon second glance, probably not.

Sorry if I walked by and saw that I'd probably call the police too. I wouldn't take a closer look, I wouldn't touch it, I wouldn't have the awareness in my freaked out state to notice things that were potentially inconsistent.

that's fine for a random pedestrian to call it in and not go anywhere near it. But for the police to not recognize it's fake? I don't get that.
