You know, books about Britain, France, America, Cuba, Russia, etc etc etc.
Ideally, these books would cover very large spans of time. I mean, if someone knows a book on 500 years of Dutch history, I'm listening. I must admit, I'm no authority on who the "good", or, if you prefer, "serious" historians are. I know a few, but that's about it. There are so many non-fiction books I've never read. a few years ago i was reading this book from the library
https://www.amazon.com/Crusades-Authoritative-History-Holy-Land/dp/0060787295 I would read it then keep checking it out whenever I needed to return it. nobody else seemed to be ever wanting the book. It was always there when I went back. I ended up moving before I finished reading it though. but it was pretty good. if you are interested in the Crusades what you should do is decide what specific topics about western history you want to read about and then just do a search on google or amazon and see what comes up. there are still many decent history writers working even today and you can find modern books that are interesting about many different topics. ...
