It's dumb and limiting. It's a game, you don't need to pay Hollywood actors millions to play a character, just render the character and use a rando for motion capture if you must. AAA gaming is going downhill.

Yeah I don't care for the trend myself.

Which is why while I'm looking forward to Cyberpunk, I feel like having Keanu Reeves following me around will just keep taking me out of it.

They do it for the same reason Hollywood does: so they can say some big name actor who draws hundreds of millions at the box office is in it.

I'd prefer the Paul Eidings, Richard Epcars, John DiMaggios, Cam Clarkes, Phil LaMarrs, Jennifer Hales and Quinton Flynns of voice acting that I grew to love in previous generations to get the kind of exposure they used to in video gaming but I honestly prefer the variety that the Hollywood scene brings to just having Troy Baker and Nolan North voice everything. *shrugs*

I don't mind it, although I think Cyberpunk will be the first game I've played with a face capped actor like that, so it's not something that I've dealt with enough to be annoyed by it.

It's not common and it's not new, but yeah I don't think it sells games. Even Terry Crews couldn't get me to play Crackdown 3

Video Games became mainstream entertainment that sells, i think we will see professional actors in games more often

Idk, I can't imagine the San Andreas cast being different. I works for some games.

In an age where voice acting is so common place, devs look for a way to make their game stand out... and getting well known folks to do the voices goes a long way towards that end.

Same thing with computer animated movies these days.

While I do agree with you 100% ...I think they screwed up by not using the movie Avengers in squarenix's new game. I don't care about it at all but I can spot a mistake like that a mile away. I mean the movies are the whole reason the game exists.

Games are special because it is the complete vision of the devs. When you bring a famous actor to play a videogame character, he stops being that character, and becomes Keanu Reeves' character (for example). This partially happened in MGSV now that I think about it, suddenly Venom was not his own character, it was Sutherland's character. Now they are going further by making the characters look like the actor.

as the medium becomes more popular and visual fidelity increases, you're just going to see more. sorry

Yeah, that's more his problem separating actor and character. Why would someone even watch the vast majority of big budget movies and shows if all you see are famous people instead of the roles they portray?

I also hate when people talk about movies, and instead of saying the character's names, they are like "Yeah, I liked the part where [Actor X]'s character shoot [Actor Y]'s character." In fact i don't want to see that happen in games.
