A young black bear was shot and killed by state officials after becoming so habituated to humans that the public could get close enough to take selfies with him.

Starting June 4, Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Oregon Department of Fish began receiving calls and seeing social media posts with the bear in the popular Scoggins Valley Park near Henry Hagg Lake.

Tuesday evening, deputies from the sheriff's office and Oregon State Police were dispatched to the area after receiving two calls about the bear, and sent a tweet asking the public to stay away.

But with 90-degree temperatures drawing boating crowds, the bear had been given food all week long.

Complete BS, the bear was completely harmless, how are we suppose to interact with wild animals if the government makes it illegal to interact with them?

The government doesn't know what's best for us, the government doesn't know what animal is dangerous and what isn't. The US Fish and Wildlife should be abolished, they are nothing more then closet Nazis claiming they are doing what's best for US citizens in the name of "environmentalism."

I believe that interacting with wild animals and even keeping them as pets is a fundamental right (see link). Even though there is millions of evidence that prove wild animals can be domesticated and be kept as pets, and behave more docile than your typical domestic dog, the government still makes it illegal because they listen to those wacko environmentalists.

Better yet that bear should have been given to a private citizen someone who is willing to take care of the bear, oh but that's illegal.

If you raised a wild animal since birth it's already domesticated. If you have a bond with a wild animal that you keep as a pet, it's already domesticated.

You go to a state where it's legal own wild animals such as Nevada and Oklahoma. Oklahoma has one of the lax laws to owning wild animals. You just get a license which cost you like $48 and you are good to go.

Black bears are timid and non-aggressive, very rare they actually attack humans. On the other hand 4.7 million dog bites happen each year, some have resulted to be fatal or serious injuries. I know I have gotten bitten by a dog before and it wasn't serious, but I had a deep puncture on my arm and it cost a lot of money just to get my arm healed.

Let me guess the only animals we can keep as pets is what the government allows right? Because forget thinking outside the box, even though the government have proven to be hypocrites; ie they want to protect wild animals but prevent people from interacting and keeping wild animals as pets, or kill wild animals because they have interacted with people too much.

The young black bear that was killed people were taking selfies with it along with people feeding it, the black bear showed no aggression whatsoever. Try taking selfies with a rottweiler dog and most likely that rottweiler dog will bite you. Give that rottweiler dog food it still start mauling people until they give them food. I know I've seen it first hand.

Whether someone decides to interact with a wild animal is their decision, but it shouldn't be illegal. The problem is when the state comes in and kills an animal for some ridiculous reason in the name of "protecting the environment" such as this case with the bear.

This has nothing to do with me I am 27 btw, it's just the government's view on owning exotic pets is 100% wrong. And I can say that for certain.

Ex-Kefiroth posted...
Feeding bears/wildlife is ****ing stupid, and anyone who did that is 100% to blame for the outcome.

When bears learn that humans are a source of food, it leads to attacks and they become a danger to the public.
