Didn't the little boy die in the novel? Or is that the made for TV version where the father kills him?

This looks to be a direct sequel to the movie, but the trailer made it seem like it had a basis in a King novel. Surely he didn't write a novel or a screenplay as a sequel to a film that he hates.

I don't recall Danny dying in the novel or any adaptation.

Danny didn't die in the book or the movie.Doctor Sleep is a sequel to the book that takes when Danny is an adult.

I've seen the movie three times -- twice in theaters. I was talking about the made-for-TV version that aired on Sci-Fi Channel(?) back in the day. Anyway, thanks for clarifying. Danny doesn't die in the novel.

I'm kinda surprised I'd forgotten his name. I used to quote the film, "I'm right behind you, Danny!", when chasing my sister's dog around.

The film seems to be drawing from both the novel and Kubrick's adaptation. I could see them primarily just using footage from the movie like they showed in the trailer, but otherwise it will be based off the books.

Apparently, Danny lives in the Syfy version as well.

I thought for certain there was some adaptation where his mother succumbs to the Overlook Hotel and both parents turn and kill him.
