Not racial profiling when the black woman walked out of the store with a shirt that still had the retail tags on it.

Please cut it out with the dumb race baiting.

Gotta admit, I loved the employee's line "Why are you shaking? Are you nervous?" XD sounds like something a Gamefaqs user would say.

It's wrong to grab her but going "She's black therefore she can't commit crime, how DARE you accuse her" is just racism.

And stupid, but most racism is stupid.

Never suggested it's something people normally do. The employee lied and said she didn't walk into the store with the shirt on, suggesting she had video evidence she never had in the first place.

Agreed.

Once you touch someone they can claim anything.

I used to work security and they tell you this on day one. It's dumb that this guy didn't know that.

lmao

It's definitely a weird thing to do, imo. She says she does it just in case the store discounts the same shirt within 30 days so she can go back with the receipt and easily get the price difference.

Employee was an idiot to try and physically restrain her, I guarantee their policy says not to do that under any circumstances. You gonna really restrain someone for supposedly stealing cheap ass Old Navy clothes?

I don't think it's racial profiling tho, if she's walking around with the tags on I'd think the clothes were stolen too

Saw something similar a couple months back. We are on our way home from Lexington (Kentucky) and the wife wanted to stop at the Kohls in Nicholasville. She wasn't gonna be long, so I dropped her off and ran to the Starbucks that's in the same parking lot. When I got back, i was just waiting on her outside, close to the front doors, when I saw this Muslim chick running out of the front, and a black chick chasing her. Apparently, the Muslim chick had attempting to shop lift, and the black chick was just a regular register peon.

The black chick did a straight up take down on the other chick lol. Slammed her to the ground and had her in a headlock. I couldn't actually hear what was going on, but my wife had a front row seat for the whole thing. She said the Muslim chick was begging for them not to call the police, and that she was sorry. It was too late, tho. It caused a big scene and they had to call the cops. I had never seen anything like that before.

I got downvoted on Reddit for criticizing the suspect and her bringing the race card into the equation.

Regardless of race, if you walk in wearing that particular store's merchandise, brand new, tag and all, and walk out looking the same way, of course it'll raise suspicions.

By wearing the tag, you're just setting yourself up for trouble. If it's a fashion sense, it's a pretty ridiculous one.

Not if you walked in the store with the clothing on.

There's still the part where the employee lied and said she watched the camera feed and she saw that the lady didn't walk in the store with the top on. Then when the manager came in and had people watch the video, the cameras "were not cooperating with them."

Strange.

Regardless if she stole the item or not, most major retailers would fire you for physically restraining someone. This is an incredibly common policy and it makes no difference if race was a factor

True

Just call the police. They had working cameras. Grabbing them isn't gonna help in any way

Apparently the cameras "were not cooperating with them" when they actually tried to check, so it's unclear if the cameras were working.

Weird, I agree, but apparently she does it so she can easily get a price adjustment if the item is discounted within 30 days of purchase. I believe all you'd need is the receipt for that, though... She mentioned she had tags on her shoes, too.

Yeah, I agree it seems kinda stupid to walk around with tags still on your clothes. I vaguely remember that being a fashion trend at one point in the early 2000s.

It's also that woman's right to file a lawsuit for wrongful detainment. Most companies with billions in assets don't really want to risk a lawsuit for a 10 dollar tshirt.

I would have fired her too. Even if the woman was stealing

Yeah, I mean this lady did a pretty shitty job communicating her side of things. And pretended like a store being suspicious about a customer walking out in a clothes with tags still on them was totally out of left field. She certainly could have handled this better.

But at the end of the day you cant physically restrain someone like that. She deserved to be terminated
