They've worked their assess off for four years to play in this tournament. They can celebrate as much as they want.

the Thailand team worked their ass for four years too. and they got taunted. imagine standing on a field surrounded by thousands of people watching you get humiliated on the world stage. and then you feel like killing yourself....and the next thing that happens is the enemy team is celebrating like they are a party, right in front of you

They were cheering because they were on there way to set a record and they did. World wide record first time ever of 13-0 how can you not be happy at that? First women in history and probably the only to ever achieve this feat.

They're celebrating because beating them is such a huge accomplishment, it's a sign of respect to celebrate to show how worth the victory is. If they just scored and did nothing and showed no emotions, now that would be very disrespectful, as if beating them meant nothing.

This shit happened to El Salvador back in 1984 and they got there shit together they lost 9-0 the first game and lost the rest of the 2 games by 1 goal after the devastating defeat. I'm speaking about the men's team here. But similar scenario.

To watch a dominating US team dab so hard on Thailand was uncomfortable to watch. Glad they're being called out on punching down on an underfunded, inexperienced 3rd world team like this. Maybe if they were beating Germany or a boys high school team, then yeah go nuts, you deserve it, but this was excessive and in poor taste.

I agree. The US team should have walked off the field with their heads down and let the other team catch up while they're off the field. It's only fair.

For me the issue comes down to celebrating once you hit 5-0 and keep on going.
I played several sports growing up and it doesn't feel good to demolish the other team. I'm not gonna let up just because I'm on a better team, but I'm not gonna celebrate my 9th goal as hard as the first couple.

It's not that the Americans shouldn't be happy that they won, or that they're scoring goals, or that they're breaking records, etc. it's that eventually it just becomes you being a sore winner.
And yeah I know the scores matter in later rounds, I've been watching the world cups for 20 years, the issue is how hard they're celebrating at the point where they have dominance. It's not classy.

if you want to be kind, score the goals. don't celebrate each goal. celebrate after game is over. that's all.

You consistently sell his behavior as completely normal and you're deflecting from that by saying you don't support him which I never said. So there is a point being proven here but it's not yours.

I mean you can even celebrate just look like you scored a goal before.

Appreciate the effor the other team put in to play against you.

I'm guessing no one here defending the team and acting like we told them to sandbag during the game watches the olympics because I'm guessing they'd all explode with rage when an act of kindness occurs on the field.

Let's not forgot the many other pros who have spoken out about it. You think Stanley Cup winners who spoke out against the celebrations are a bunch of pussies who would throw a playoff game?

I swear users ITT are living vicariously through these athletes. Got shamed enough in sports that now they think that's the only way professional athletes should act or something.

I'm not sure where this sensitive nonsense keeps coming from.

It's actually about composure. You celebrate, but you celebrate appropriately.

Excessive celebration is straight up immaturity. Sensitivity has nothing to do with it and the people who have been the most emotional in this topic have been the people like you.

Sorry I hurt your feelings with what I've said today.

It just seemed a bit forced. If you are genuinely that happy fair enough but it felt more like they had decided beforehand they would make a show if celebrating their goals and stuck to it. No that there's a problem with that anyway other than screaming inexperience.
