Third interview, probably the final one and just to hash out the details before hiring me. I currently make 70K (plus 1K-10K annual bonus), the listing said 60-75K but the hiring manager said he could work with the higher end and maybe even a bit more considering my experience.

I ask because the online application for the next round is asking me to input a number, not sure if I want to commit yet because I'd rather negotiate in person.

If I put a number into the website I think I will ask for 86K, my bottom line is 75K.

How do you bring up money and negotiate? What's the process here?

I generally google the average salary for the job title in the area then add $5k-$10k.

To answer your original question...seems like when the hiring manager said he could get you a bit more, he's probably talking $5k high than the pay range. I wouldn't ask for more than $80k. A $10k pay bump is about what I shoot for when looking for new jobs.

Of course I did.

They can tell me their number and I'll negotiate them up. Whoever speaks first loses.

That's all you need to hear... push 'em hard. If they push back, tell them why you're worth it and keep fighting for it and you'll get what you deserve.

Knowing you fought for what you're getting paid makes those high-stress crunch times worth it.

I won't argue against your tactic. As long as you didn't leave it blank because you're running away from making a confident statement.
