Probably in part because every family has a gay member and now that people are more open about their sexuality it's kinda hard to hate cousin Matt, who you've loved your whole life.

I legit don't have any openly gay family members but I have several gay friends that might as well be like family.

Imagine if you said this about the Civil Rights movement in the 50s and 60s.

It's entirely possible and very likely that people are thinking for themselves and this is the conclusion they came to.

Change is inevitable.

People were bound to come around. If not because more and more people learned that being gay isn't a choice, then because more and more old bastards are dying off and their more reasonable children are replacing them.

Trans people are next. Notice how they've been getting more shit by politicians lately(Attempted bathroom law, military ban, etc). The world will be better for them too. One day.

The one drawback I see with it being more public is that it solidifies a bad perception.

You know how nobody in school wants to sit with the outcast at lunch because well, he is an outcast? Why would other races sit with (metaphor) with a race that is getting bullied?

people going unpunished is why these trends continue. when things are socially acceptable for a long time, many people don't want to change.

laws change behaviors due to unfavorable consequences, but laws don't change the heart.

being shunned for behavior/beliefs can silence somebody pubically. but they're the same person when not amongst "mixed company."

if it were more socially acceptable to hit women, A LOT more men would be beating women. starting with those who take EVERY opportunity to use some "equality means punching a woman in the face for slapping me" type of quote.

change happens from within. a lot of people don't want to improve themselves. they just want people to tolerate their righteous indignation.
