First thing she did was try to find me and call for me so I would get her, lol.

Its a pretty weird feeling. She could go wherever she wanted but shed rather be with me. I wouldnt be surprised if that changed once she is an adult, though.

Obligatory messy bird pic:

If you brush her with marinade, she may be less inclined to try to escape.

I love birds, but they're far too noisy, and they really need a lot of love from their owner. If you work nights and sleep all day, or if you can't dedicate a lot of time to them, they aren't for you.

I had two lovebirds growing up. Wonderful creatures, but not for me.

I mean I find them cuter than dogs and cats overall, they are small, don't require walks, aren't as expensive, they can talk, but they definitely require a bit of attention.

They are intelligent and affectionate pets, but yeah they require a ton of attention. Probably more so than a dog.

Definitely more so than a dog. They get depressed very, very easily, and if they get too depressed, they give up on life and just die.

Birds have their preferred people. I have a buddy with a couple of cockatoos. The male hates everyone and will bite if anyone tries to pick him up but my buddy. But the girl is much more friendly. But my buddy can pick up the male anytime.

Cockatoo bites can be horrific. Theyre lovely birds, but understanding their body language isnt for people new to caring for birds.
The whole preferred person thing can also cause a lot of frustration with people who dont understand that its common in many species of parrots.
Ends up in people getting rid of their birds. IIRC cockatoos and macaws have high rehome rates. Very unfortunate.

I've never heard of that. They get cold and sick easily and die from that, but I've never heard of them "giving up on living and just dying".

Parrots too. Parrots live like 60 years in captivity. There's a lady here in Arizona who takes in all the elderly parrots that belonged to old people who die, it's pretty sad.

They stop taking care of themselves basically, and not eating anything, and they start to go batshit and hurt themselves. It's the same as sticking a person in solitary confinement, they fucking lose it.

I'm speaking only of my experiences with lovebirds here.

It's kind of crazy how similar they are to humans and other primates in that regard.

Thats pretty awesome. People usually only expect certain pets to have real affection, but it definitely exists. I had a red boa which my family rescued, and she was very nice and always very careful not to bite or constrict too much when she held her.

Any advice for me? I have a Red Vented Bulbul that I found as a fledgling about a year ago. Until a few weeks ago she's been very calm and happy to hop into my hands when it was time for food or to be let out of her cage.

But now she won't let me carry her, so getting her back into her cage is a nightmare. It can take around 30 minutes of chasing her until she's tired so I can catch her and put her back in. And she'll always escape, since she somehow finds the tiniest opening in the cage when I'm cleaning out her cage or taking her food dish out <_<

I thought so. The first show of affection my parakeet I had as a kid did was go onto my shoulder. It didnt live to see a year due to catching pneumonia from the cold winter though.

Thats heartbreaking :(

I had a cockatiel once that flew up on my head at our ranch. We assumed it was a neighbors but never found the owner. Barely saved her though as our cat climber me trying to eat her!

Glad you could save her :)
