Could this really happen?

This model told me about her new job that would be on Monday (today), but said that she didn't go because she wasn't feeling well:

Of course it can happen. If the job is important to you, go in sick. As long as you're not throwing up you can probably fight your way thru it.

I lost a retail job because of food poisoning. Being a part-time minimum wage worker at the time, I couldn't take like a whole week off, so I decided it was best just to quit instead of getting fired.

Sounds like the person really didn't care about the job at all.

This, but they fired me while I was too sick to communicate.

This is what happened to Andrew Garfield

It's why Amazing Spider-Man 3 was cancelled

Andrew got a flu and couldn't come to a Sony event and the Japanese Sony CEO felt offended

Is she a freelance model? For freelancers it's definitely like that, if you don't show up, then opportunity is given to someone else

She does freelance model (or just keeps contacting me to model), but this was actually going to be a data entry job at a jewelry place.

At my old job if you missed the first day without some agreement in place prior you were automatically fired.

See my workplace wasn't like that. We even had a receptionist who was nervous on the first day and walked away after an hour and didn't return for the whole day. He was only fired weeks later when the girls complained that he was creepy.

Seems unfair if he didn't actually do anything and they just thought he seemed "creepy". He probably was just really shy

It's a really bad look for any job, to not show up for your first day. Even she was really sick, they will think 'hmm she could make an effort, that means this job isn't important to her' or 'who knows if she is so sickly and will be taking a lot of days off'
Either way, it was fair of them to give the job to someone else

I think he had some creepy interactions with the female coworkers in terms of things he said, but I didn't witness them myself.

It's understandable but unfortunate. I did ask her recently why she didn't save more money when she was working for years before this.
