Been awhile since last time. I vaguely remember I tried a gordito last time and thought it was ok. Not as good as the arbys gyro mind you, but edible.

I got there and they had killed all the employees and replaced them with screens (the employees were not all dead, there were some in the back, and I think some taking drive in orders, just nobody at first up front serving customers.

So I'm like, the future is here, and went to order my Gordito, but search as I might, I could not find anything but a crunchy cheesy gordito which was not at all what I wanted.

I did notice a ton of customization options so I decided to make my own sort of. I went to the burrito menue and got inventive. I made 2 customized burrotos. The first was some kind of beef and freto burroto, that normally came with cheese and rice. It was freaking cheap ($1.19 I believe), so....I ditched the rice, put light freetos, and switched it to fresco which got rid of the cheese and added tomatoes etc (Fresca sauce). I also added double meat which is $.50, so it came out to be 1.69 total (not bad price for a beef/been burrito with salsa in it).

Then I went with a plain bean and cheese burrito...which for some crazy reason was actually more expensive (no clue why). I again made it fresca, but added 2 orders of steak to it (50 cents each so 1$ more). Basically making it a double steak and bean burrito. Fresca style again. This one came out to be like $2.70 though.

I ordered but decided to pay cash and.....woah....out of the nether regions of the taco bell (seriously it was waaay in the back you couldn't even see the guy initially) came someone to ring up my order. This allowed me to ask about the Gordito as well (which is normally $3) and it turns out they are off the menu but you can order (think it was a challupa) which is a gordito that is grilled and just ask them not to grill it. You can't do it on the machine thingy though, so you gotta ask for a real employee.

Anyway, I got both of the burritos and my thoughts are as follows:

The freeto beefy burrito had no beens, lots of beef, and was super cheap. I would get again. It is pretty large for the price, has a nice flavor (with like freetos it's crunchy but doesn't really disrupt the taste, it's like eating a broken up corn tortilla taco inside a flour taco). For $1.69 it's comparibla to the amount of meat you can get most places if your buying smart (like the 1.50 large patty sides at burger king), and it was tasty.

The steak burrto was almost 2x the price. It ended up beeing a bit larger due to all the beans they put in it, and even with double steak, I would not consider that much steak at all. It also didn't taste very good (the steak). It was edible, but for basically $3 you can get a gyro at ARby's most of the time and it's far superior (so is a gordito if I remember it right). I would not get it again.

So in the end, if I'm really hungry and lazy, I can run across the strees and get the freeto burrito (or two of em), but I'll only do it in an emergency. The future, may be here, but it still needs some tweaks. I don't know if all taco bells are going automated or not, and if they are ever planning on doing it with the people making the actual food, but....it already seemed kinda lonely and....desolate in the store. I feel sorry for employees when it's just one or maybe two of them working all alone while machines do almost everything for them.

I dont like places like that. I usually rather talk to an actual employee. I try to avoid places like that. Mainly places that have the automated things. But also places where it feel like machine do most of the cooking. Though, I dont Know how to explain what I mean... Thats being said, I have no idea if the Taco Bells around here are like that. They seem to have a bunch of people inside. But I usually only do the drive-thru, so...

Yeah, they had a drive through but it's across the street from me so I walked. No clue if they have a screen there as well, but I know you can order on your phone or computer before going to taco bell and it will be ready for you.

I think there was a real person doing the drive through. There was just 1 other person in the actual store, so that may be why they have nobody up front normally.

I didn't eat much all day and it was past 9 pm, didn't feel like hitting safeway and making food, so I just jogged across the street (was in the mood for a beef and been burrito/gordita anyway). Was easy/fast but over all unsatisfying. I'll just go to burger king probably in the future, as 2 of their burger patties are just $3 and it's quite filling. Can even get fries on top of that for less then I paid at Taco Bell, and it would be much tastier.

It's actually a good enough deal at $6 per pound of already cooked hamburger, that it's comparible to buying my own at safeway and bbqing it at home (although I usually only buy the ground beef on sale for less then $3 a pound).

Oh well, it's after 11pm so I'll hopefully go to bed soon and get something actually yummy to eat tomorrow.

I might check out the $5 chulupa one since that is a gordito which is $3 + whatever comes with the box (guessing a soda which I shouldn't drink, and something else).

BK though is meh normally. I wouldn't pay the full price for the whoppers etc, it's basically a rip off, but you can get JUST the whopper patty (beef) for $1.50...which is actually a pretty good deal for that amount of ground beef and it doesn't taste to bad all by itself. It's not great, your better off making your own at home and if you get ground beef on any kind of sale it's about half as expensive, but.....it's fast, and you can eat it on the run (IE when I was playing DnD and needed to get food fast on the way).

The really good deal honestly is in the morning at BK, you can get the sausage cruissant for $2, and get an extra sausage patty on it for 80 cents, so you get a double sausage cruisant for about $3 after tax. It's yummy, filling, and super fast.

Taco time is big around here, but they do look pretty expensive. We went there when we first moved here from California...and ugh...was not impressed but that was before we realized that there are no good taco places in washington at all, and it's been 3+ years no, so my expectations are far less. I might like it at this point.

Most of the boxes (I believe) come with the main box item, a crunchy taco, a burrito (I think), a drink, and the cinnamon things. Though I hear you can replace those with nachos or something. So, not a bad price for all that, I guess...

When I was younger, I only went to BK with a cousin. Then it seemed to be closed a lot when I could drive. They have them on like all Air Force bases. I went a few times. And they were always out of something. Burgers, fries, Ketchup, etc... It turned me off a little since I felt like I would go there to get something and they would be out... But Idk. I guess Ive never been big on the stuff they serve, anyway... I do have some coupons, though. So maybe Ill go...

I see. If you search for change, maybe you can get like $6 in quarters or something. That would get you one of the $5 boxes, I would think...

Never had a taco!!!

OMG!!!

That is like saying you never had pizza.

Someone, make this guy a taco stat!!!!

Tacos are amazing (not taco bell tacos...but tacos in general). Best tacos I ever had were street tacos in Mexico. They were freaking 10 cents (this was like 30+ years ago though)...and the steak was on the leg rotating when they cut it off to put it in the taco. Jesus I can still taste it so many years later. Was so good.

You gotta try some tacos they are life changing!

Pizza has been more popular in the UK long before Mexican food. I did try a burrito for the first time last year though. I do like wraps so naturally love burritos. I certainly play on getting Tacos sooner rather than later. Apparently we have a place near me called The Street Food Chef that does Mexican food well at a good price so I'll put that on my to do list.

You'll probably have better tacos then I have in like 4 years. Washington has like the worst tacos in the world. It is really sad. I can't even get good taco meat here to make my own!

I used to get this great skirt steak from Safeway and make the most delicious tacos, but nope, can't even do that here.

Oh how I miss good tacos. *sigh*

So, I went to my local Taco Bel tonight (had some free vouchers). And it turns out they do have those screen things. But they are still taking counter orders, as well... And have plenty of people working there. Maybe its just because its not that late yet. Either way, I think the screens are there for people who dont want to or cant talk to the cashier. Or for then they are super busy, so they can basically take more orders at the same time...

Yeah, I don't remember the exact time but I think it was like 11 pm or something when I went. It was right before I posted but all it says now is 1 day ago.

But yeah, it's probably more busy/filled with workers during the day.

The screens are pretty cool though, but I like talking to people as well.

Yeah. I like the cashiers more. I like that things are getting more advanced. Maybe one day, they'll even be advanced enough to take more complex orders... Depending on the place. Until then, I think I'll stick with the cashiers for most places...
