I guess I did at one point. I was looking through my DS games and saw one about learning Japanese. My Japanese Coach, I think. But I also had the Spanish one and the English vocabulary one.

My junior high/high school required us to take 2 years of a foreign language, and the options at the time were Spanish or Japanese

went with Japanese because it seemed cooler

I started learning it in 2014 and have been reading stuff in it like every day since (mostly VNs but also an occasional non-VN video game)

my girlfriend has a whole side of her family thats native Japanese and doesnt speak english. We both want to but never really try lol

I admit, I've always wanted to play Super Robot Wars Z but there's no complete script English online that I've found and no menu translation when it's more complex than Fire Emblem Thracia 776, the only game I've played without an English translation (but with a menu patch and reading the complete script off of Serenes Forest).

The extremely thorough Let's Play is the best we got and that still paraphrases most dialogue. Always wondered if Japanese to English translation was something I could've pursued but I was too self-conscious to take Japanese instead of Spanish for High School and the four semesters of Foreign Language in College.
