I think that just covers the area behind home plate. The areas up the baselines - line drive alley - aren't covered. At least not in any of the stadiums I've seen/been to.

In general.

I will never understand why parents take kids that young to anything like a sports game. They're too young to understand or remember anything about it. They're nothing but a pain in the ass for the parent meaning they can't focus on whatever it is they're at. Then most times a kid that age is a pain in the ass to the people sitting nearby too. The waste of money that it is.

Games, nicer restaurants, movies not geared towards them. Even an amusement park at that age.
I've seen it at Dodger games and elsewhere. You're sitting there seeing this dope parent with this 3 year old. All of their attention is on the kid and not on the game. All the kid's attention is on the food the parent is trying to feed them or on a toy. Or whining because it's hot. Up and down, up and down constantly to get more things for the kid or to go change them. And the whole time I just wonder. Why the hell are you even here? You paid $30-40 per seat to sit there and do this? Up close we're talking $180-$300 per seat. All the added expenses, the drive, the hauling all this kid's crap across the burning hot parking lot.
Should try and sell volcano insurance to people like that as they're clearly the dopes that would buy it.

I mean a toddler hasn't got the attention span to follow the game or the understanding to know what's going on. If adults get hit by the ball, a toddler doesn't stand a chance.

Baseball is the one sport where you dont need a great attention span, theres so little gong on and multiple play stoppages between pitches and/or hits. Outside of soccer its probably a game thats most connected to kids than any other. I get that you and others are overly emotional, but I bet you didnt have these same opinions before this child got hit with a baseball yesterday, no reason kids shouldnt be brought to any sports game, let alone baseball.

Not looking for an argument but I held that opinion well before this incident. A coworker took his 4 year old son to a game and complained that he ran up and down the stairs with other kids, didn't focus on the game, and then fell asleep. I told her "WTF? Did you expect otherwise?"

I don't want to blame anyone in this case, but to my mind between 8 & 10 is when you take a kid to a major sporting event or amusement park. They're too young to appreciate it before then and for a sporting event it may even put them at risk of injury.

Why do they have to appreciate it though? Cant it just be an afternoon or evening out with the family? Again, baseball is a kids game, its much more affordable for a family of four or five to go to one as opposed to other sports.

Most baseball stadiums are outfitted with kids sections where they can get their face painted, slides, sandboxes etc. You dont find these things at NBA, NHL or NFL stadiums where theyre of course much more expensive to attend. One freak accident should change if you bring your child to a game or not. What they need to do (and should have years ago) is put up netting down either baseline to avoid liners entering foul territory at 100+ mph.
