Or are they one of those purchases that sound nice, but I'll probably not use after a few times?

They are pretty chill. Finding a proper place to set it up can be the issue.
Either way, if you get one, get one with a built-in bug netting.

I was gonna get one that came with a stand. If I want to use it with trees, I can just buy some straps for that

Ya, one of my greatest fears is being completely chilled out, or asleep, and having the thing just fall out from under you. Seems like that would be incredibly jarring.

But to your point, yes I do have one, but I haven't set it up yet.
Though I almost did the other day. I just don't have the trees in the right place for it.
And the place I've camped at the most freaks me out for the aforementioned reasons.
Lots of rocks and roots.

If you live in a rural area or a nice quiet neighborhood, Id say go for it. My parents had one when I was a kid and I loved it. Id just lay out there and watch the dog run around or read a book. Its nice and relaxing. I dont know how relaxing itd be if you have noisy neighbors or live in town though.

I enjoyed mine for a while. But at some point I just stopped using it. Ended up selling it.
