I posted in the beaten games topic that I was disappointed in the main character being a doormat basically, and it was true for the first few routes of the game.

However, the game truly shines more in the back half of the in-game routes, which require a lot more planning to setup and uncover a lot more on the backstory of the game as well as the current politics of the time period. The main character also gets a lot more time to showcase what she can do, especially when going down Kazama's route. They also really took out the budget to pay some high profile voice actors to voice the newer characters that were added in this game, which is a nice addition.

Since this was only part 1, I will eventually play part 2 in Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms at some point, but as for now after reading for over twenty-five hours it's time to move on to something else for the time being. I've actually made some decent progress in Dragon Quest XI for once, so maybe that's next?
