Sad if true, easily the weakest and easiest entry in the GS series. Though my only biggest complaint about the game was not only that some characters were totally useless in the overall story, but that there was "points of no return" in the game, something that was not in previous entries and the game didn't do a good job when it was about to happen (from my memory). This means you can miss out on djinns and summons, which can be tough for those who are completionists.

Yes. Golden Sun was kind of old news by the time it came out, and unlike the first game with the GBA, it didn't really have a niche to fall in since there were a ton of DS-original JRPGs available, many of which were deeper than it was.

Plus, Camelot seems content with making half-assed Mario sports titles which still sell far more than Golden Sun ever did. And the original minds behind the Golden Sun series left the company a long time ago.

Killed it like my fat ass kills a plate of ribs on cheesecake.

Ass pull villain, that thing with the black holes or shit that got left by the wayside, etc.

It was pretty obvious that it was building up to a sequel, hence why the major cliffhanger.

Sad to see that happen. Probably explains why Dark Dawn sucked.

I wouldn't blame you for not finishing it. It was kind of painful for me to get through it as well.

I played the first Golden Sun and I don't see the acclaim. It was a decent enough game, but it was basically "baby's first jrpg".

That game was a disaster, i bought it and i really regret it, the kicker is the ending too, "hey guys look that blackhole, the thing we left to fix, we completely forgot about it!"

I don't remember a single character in that whole fucking game either, neither good or bad...

Golden Sun The Lost Age (the sequel) is the game that ties it all together that got most of its acclaim. The first game, I admit, was pretty damn short but easily better than the disaster Dark Dawn was.

Not really. Camelot has been mostly content with making Mario sports titles for a long time now. From what I can tell, the Camelot that was responsible for games like Shining Force & the GBA Golden Sun games died a long time ago. Dark Dawn was more like a last ditch effort.

Honestly Dark Dawn was the only one I played to the end. Not big on the series in general but having more than four party members was nice.

I played Golden Sun 1 a long time ago and have been wanting to play the sequel, but I can hardly remember the plot details and what exactly I would be carrying over.

One of these days I'll get back to it, but there's that barrier of looking through a plot summary.

Golden Sun in general isn't a great series, sad to say. The gameplay is fun but the story and characters are REALLY subpar. Dark Dawn wasn't unique in this regard.

I wouldn't even say the gameplay is all that fun, really. It's pretty basic and really easy. The series coasted by on the battle visuals and the music.

That, and also being the first original JRPG on the GBA in a time when all of the other JRPGs were SNES ports. The Lost Age rode on that hype (releasing less than two years after the original), but Dark Dawn had none of that going for it except maybe the music.

Golden Sun, TLA, and Dark Dawn are all god fucking awful. Some of the worst writing in a critically acclaimed RPG series ever. Which is saying a lot because RPGs tend to have shit writing to begin with.
