Its kind of overwhelming. Theres been an outpouring of people telling me not to go, that Im the best person theyve worked with, asking me why, etc.

My team hosted a goodbye lunch for me and 20 people showed up. I was really moved by the amount of people that came by and wished me well. Ive never experienced that at any other company.

Despite my hangups recently, it was a good company to work for and a lot of great people. It makes me nervous about the next company because I hear its a lot more corporate and fast paced. It will be interesting to see how it goes. But I do worry about starting over after having built a great reputation here.

Its eye opening though that despite a super lean team and my teammates being completely overloaded, they arent even going to backfill me. They converted a contractor on the team and basically gave him all my work on top of his own. Kind of speaks to my fears of instability at the place.

Anyone ever leave a company they were happy with for a better opportunity? How did it go?

A) What do you do?
B) You had a new job lined up previously to leaving, I imagine?
C) Did you leave for a better job/position? If so, what is it?
D) Did you get headhunted?
E) If yes to D, how fucking rad does that feel?

A) Tech sales
B) Yes I did
C) Its the same role and pay, but a more well known company. Having it on my resume will open a lot of doors. Theyre also much more stable financially, which gives me more opportunity to grow
D) Technically no but Ive been contacted by recruiting agencies about this company multiple times. I just went around them and applied directly
E) Considering that its very difficult to get into this company and they tend to hire through third party agencies, I feel pretty awesome that I got in without any help and they selected me out of hundreds of others

Nice! Good on you.

I gotta ask, how does it feel to be a woman in tech sales? My wife is in demand gen (horizontal) and has a bone to pick with how people treat her at trade shows a lot. She'll get like 1st or 2nd in leads, but always feels greasy afterward.

Also, what kind of tech? My wife works for Faro (they do 3d scanning for aerospace and shit in case you're not familiar with the company).

Ive done trade shows in the past and its always felt gross. Im in software sales now though and my clients are mostly software engineers and theyve been pretty respectful to me. Its more difficult to assert myself on the team though. Every meeting, all the men just talk over each other and interrupt. My boss used to say I needed to be more vocal in meetings and when I tried, hed interrupt and talk over me every time.
