I usually already have my money out by the time they are even done ringing stuff up. I prefer cash because I spend it slower since I can easily see how much I have.

Plus they have those chip readers bere and that ends up takimg just as long as cash. Insert card takes a second to read. Do you want cash back. Is this amount correct? Enter pin wait a few seconds for it to approve.

I actually run into more people having problema with the card reader than someone holding up a line with cash.

People who write checks though and dont already have at least everything but the dollar amount already filled out...

Meanwhile if your card gets declined (happens so many times every day) it's good to have cash on you so you won't hold up the line even longer.

I'm a cashier, btw. I like it when people carry cash with them as a backup. I get just as frustrated as the people in line whenever someone's card keeps getting declined.

If it's a couple bucks, just for like coffee or a sandwich, I really prefer paying with cash. Charging anything under about five dollars just seems weird to me for some reason.

That said, I visited my parents a few weeks ago, went to the store, and my mom paid with a check. Even I was like, what the?

most stores now keep receipts of all transactions electronically, the government can do whatever they want if they want to get information about anybody.

Ive waited far longer on people who use debit or credit and somehow have no fucking idea how to use it properly. Or who insist they have enough to cover the purchase even as they get an insufficient funds message 17 times.

Ive practically never had to wait on someone using cash unless it was a hobo counting put small change for smokes or beer or something.

I try to tell my brother this but usually say 20 bucks. Its enough to get him enough gas to get to work and back. He just lives in a area with a crime problem. Try telling him if he loses 20 dallars it wont break him.

non-homeless person here. i use cash for almost everything i buy IRL that costs < $100

as for TC's gripes, i get my money clip out, quickly count out a few 20s and hand them over. the entire exchange, including the time for the cashier to count out the change, typically takes less time than it does for the CC machine to do its thing. if i need to reorganize my money i make sure i step out of line and stand away from everything so i don't hold people up.

True I suppose. Would take a idiot to buy something illegal with a debit card or over the internet.

Did know a drug dealer who said if he could take debit/credit cards he would though. This was before those apps/devices that allowed it to be done from smart phones. Said he took checks though. Bet he got a few bad checks too.

Well yeah but with stuff like say weed you know people are gonna do it. And though I quit a long time ago I agree on some level that if you want to change a law some people gotta break that law. If very few people smoked weed it would never get legalized.

you're saying only an idiot would ever buy something that the government has deemed illegal? so IYO a christian living in an islamic country who wanted a bible would be an idiot for buying one on the black market? you consider the government to be the supreme, infallible authority on what we should and shouldn't have access to?

I dunno if a Middle Eastern black market takes debit

But I kinda find it funny that you had to go to the other side of the world to think of an exception I might consider.
