Maybe they havent accepted that theyre gay? I know Ive heard about some guys that end up realizing theyve always been gay but not until later in life. Society and families can put a lot of pressure on some people to conform.

I imagine some people use others as a sort of door to the closet perhaps and especially when they live at home or feel some other need to keep that part of them hidden away.

The same reason why anyone settles.
I always ask myself that of anyone who seems to dislike their significant other more than typical or doesn't think of them as a dime.

Why does anybody settle for less than the best for them?

I'd assume to appear "normal" as being gay was taboo back in the day. It's probably one of the Lesbian couples tend to look like a bloke. These days though it's not as much of a big deal what sexuality you have. Also of course some folk are confused about their sexuality.

The two main reasons are they can't accept their sexuality and live in denial, hoping they can force themselves to be straight. Or they are afraid of coming out and are just trying to hide what they are. Hoping nobody will know if they put on a good show.

In the past being single beyond a certain age was almost as much of a stigma as being gay.

I asked a boss I once had about this. She married her longtime girlfriend after she finally divorced her 1st husband. Even had a kid with him.

She said in her case, she said she didn't want her family to know. They were not the least bit accepting of homosexuality. Would have made her life harder than it already was.

Eventually, she didn't care, got rid of him and regrets waiting so long. He was abusive and the son turned into a scumbag. She wished she had done something sooner if not outright just dating women

Many different reasons. Some just dont know. It can be hard to tell sometimes. Sometimes, you know youre different. But dont exactly know how.

Sometimes, its to pretend youre straight. If you can trick yourself, you can sometimes convince others. Also, it can get parents off your back about dating. Or can at least stop people asking about it. Sometimes, they will even have kids.

Some people do it for status. Like, if youre the high school QB, people expected you to be manly and stuff. But if you turned out to be gay, that could be a problem. Especially in a locker room. So you get a beard, as its called...

Basically, it could be one of a million things or reasons...
